WHO MAY BE CONSIDERED:
This announcement is open to all qualified U.S citizens.
JOB SUMMARY:
The world’s leader in space and aeronautics is always seeking outstanding scientists, engineers, and other talented professionals to carry forward the great discovery process that its mission demands. Creativity. Ambition. Safety awareness. A sense of daring. And a probing mind. That’s what it takes to join the NASA team.
NESC is recruiting for a Discipline Expert in the Non-Destructive Evaluation discipline:
The Non-Destructive Evaluation (NDE) Expert uses non-damaging interrogating energy to characterize properties, detect damage, or assess the integrity of materials, structures and systems. There are a variety of NDE methodologies that use different forms of interrogating energy such as sound, heat, and electromagnetic radiation at a variety of frequencies and wavelengths to include X-rays, microwaves, optical, and Terahertz. Because of the complexities in the type of material or structural geometry, many flight components used in NASA’s missions require special adaptations of NDE techniques for successful application. The NDE Discipline Expert provides the necessary expertise to cover the wide range of NDE subdisciplines and applications. These include dye penetrant and magnetic particle methods, ultrasonic and acoustic emission, radiography, thermography, optical and electromagnetic methods, all as applied to metallic and composite aerospace materials and structures.
This is an OPEN Continuous announcement. Referral lists will be generated to fill vacancies as they occur. The FIRST CUTOFF for applicants to be considered for positions, will be 08/14/06 (12 midnight, Eastern Standard Time). Applications for this vacancy announcement will remain ACTIVE for 90 days from the date of application. Candidates must monitor this 90 day period and reapply after that date to be continuously considered for positions.
This is a permanent position assigned to the NASA Engineering and Safety Center (NESC), however, the selectee will typically receive a temporary promotion/appointment and serve for a period of 2 to 5 years. Selectees from within NASA will then rotate to an appropriate position at the parent or another NASA Center at a grade level no lower than the grade previously held. Some positions may serve longer than 5 years.
Duty location may be at any one of the 10 NASA Centers. Final duty assignment will be made at the discretion of the selecting official.
All positions may not be filled at this time.
Transportation expenses may be paid if determined to be for the good of the Government.
As of October 1, 2005, NASA uses the USAJobs resume as the basic application document. Resumes created on the NASA resume builder will no longer be accepted.
