Postdoctoral Fellow in Physics – Colgate University
Colgate University
Postdoctoral Teaching/Research Fellow in Physics
The Department of Physics and Astronomy at Colgate University invites applications for a one-year postdoctoral teaching/research fellowship in physics to begin in the fall of 2007. Applicants should have received their Ph.D. in physics within the past 3 years, and also have a sincere interest in an academic career at an undergraduate liberal arts institution. The postdoctoral fellow will teach a (reduced) load of three courses and have the opportunity to engage in a vigorous research program involving undergraduate physics majors. In addition to teaching, candidates with appropriate experimental expertise can also participate in an NSF-funded study of single- molecule magnets using terahertz spectroscopy, for an additional stipend. Colgate is a highly-selective liberal arts institution located in a picturesque village of central New York. The Department’s eight faculty are actively engaged in scholarship, with well-equipped laboratories in quantum optics, condensed matter physics, and biophysics, plus an observatory housing a 16 inch reflector and CCD camera.
Candidates should send a letter of application describing their research and teaching ambitions and a curriculum vitae. Candidates who are interested in the research supplement should describe any relevant experience in optics, magnetism, or cryogenics. Candidates should also arrange for three letters of recommendation to be sent to the address below. At least one recommender should address the candidate’s potential for teaching, and at least one should be very familiar with the candidate’s research experience and potential for scholarship in an undergraduate setting. A review of applications will begin February 28. Candidates who are in attendance at the upcoming March APS meeting in Denver will have the opportunity for a preliminary interview with department members. Colgate University is an affirmative action/equal opportunity employer. Developing and sustaining a diverse faculty and staff further the University’s education mission.
