Professor (W2) „Goethe-Leibniz-Oerlikon-Nachwuchsprofessur für Terahertz Photonik“, Universität Frankfurt

Friday, July 18th, 2008

The position has been endowed by OC Oerlikon Management AG, for research on novel sources and detectors of THz radiation and the exploration of its applications.

Shimmering ferroelectric domains

Thursday, July 17th, 2008

The scientists tuned the free electron laser to a frequency which was in resonance with the atomic motion in the bariumtitanate (near 18 Terahertz). Then they shone the invisible laser beam onto a sharp needle (the tip of an atomic force microscope), moving across the sample surface. Finally they measured the light that was scattered away from the needle with a resolution better than 200 nanometers, which is hundred times smaller than the wavelength of the light.

Monday, July 14th, 2008

Innovative system is expected to precisely detect chemicals that elude current systems

Researchers dive into invisible light and the origins of the universe

Friday, July 11th, 2008

It is estimated that sub-millimeter or terahertz radiation, which is targeted by this device, contains approximately half of the total luminosity of the Universe and 98% of all the photons emitted since the Big Bang.

Development Engineer / Scientist – Durham Photonics

Sunday, July 6th, 2008

Durham Photonics seeks to appoint a development engineer/ physicist to lead a new
development of a compact QCL source for practical use in a number of demonstrator
applications.

Visualizing atomic-scale acoustic waves in nanostructures

Friday, July 4th, 2008

Part of the shock wave is effectively converted to THz electromagnetic radiation, which propagates out of the material where it can be measured.
